Meet Tony Tenorio, Owner

I’m Tony Tenorio, owner of Square Foot Roofing. I have spent more than 30 years working in the roofing industry, and that experience has taught me that every roof needs to be evaluated based on its actual condition.

A roof is more than the shingles visible from the ground. The condition of the decking, flashing, valleys, ventilation, roof penetrations, underlayment, and other components can all affect how a replacement should be completed.

My goal is to give homeowners a clear understanding of what their roof needs before work begins. If problems are discovered after the existing roofing is removed, I explain what was found and what needs to be addressed rather than simply covering the problem with new materials.

Square Foot Roofing has been Virginia state licensed since 2019 and focuses primarily on residential roofing and roof replacement throughout Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina.

Residential Roof Replacement

Roof replacement is one of our primary services. When a roof has reached the end of its service life or sustained significant damage, we evaluate the complete roofing system rather than focusing only on the visible shingles.

The condition of the underlying decking is particularly important. If deteriorated or damaged decking is discovered during the replacement, those areas can be addressed before the new roofing system is installed.

We also pay attention to flashing, valleys, ventilation, underlayment, and roof penetrations. These components all contribute to the performance of the finished roof.

Our residential roofing services are available throughout Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Poquoson. We also serve homeowners in Moyock, Elizabeth City, Hertford, and Edenton, North Carolina.

Our Roof Replacement Process

Our roof replacement process begins with evaluating the existing roof and discussing its condition with the homeowner.

If replacement is appropriate, we identify areas that may require additional attention. Some problems, including damaged decking, may not become visible until the existing roofing material is removed.

Once the roofing system and project scope have been determined, we install the new system according to the applicable product specifications and manufacturer requirements.

Cleanup is also part of the job. Roof replacement creates debris, and we take care to clean the work area so homeowners are not left dealing with the remnants of the project.

Our goal throughout the process is clear communication, professional workmanship, and a properly installed roofing system appropriate for the home.

50-Year Roof Systems

Square Foot Roofing offers roofing systems that may include products marketed with 50-year product or warranty specifications.

A “50-year” designation does not necessarily mean a roof is guaranteed to provide 50 years of service. Depending on the product, the designation may refer to a manufacturer’s warranty or product specification.

Actual roof performance depends on the roofing system, installation, weather exposure, maintenance, ventilation, and applicable warranty requirements.

As an Owens Corning Certified and Preferred Contractor, we can explain the roofing products and system options available for your property so you can understand what you are purchasing before making a decision.

High-Wind Resistant Roofing

Strong winds and severe weather make wind performance an important consideration for homeowners throughout Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina.

Square Foot Roofing offers roofing systems capable of wind resistance ratings of up to 160 mph when the applicable products, installation methods, and manufacturer specifications are met. The exact rating depends on the specific roofing system selected.

Wind resistance involves more than the shingle itself. Proper fastening, installation methods, and compliance with manufacturer requirements all contribute to the performance of the complete roofing system.

If you are replacing a roof in Virginia Beach or another Hampton Roads community, we can discuss roofing options designed for enhanced wind resistance and explain the requirements associated with the system being considered.

Owens Corning Certified & Preferred Contractor

Square Foot Roofing is proud to be an Owens Corning Certified and Preferred Contractor.

We believe manufacturer certification is valuable because roofing performance depends on both the materials selected and how the system is installed. Proper preparation, installation practices, and adherence to applicable manufacturer requirements are important parts of the process.

Our experience allows us to evaluate the existing roof, identify conditions that may need attention, and install the selected roofing system with those factors in mind.

Real Roofing Experience

Roofing problems are not always visible from the ground.

During residential roof replacements, removing the existing roofing materials can reveal conditions that were not apparent during the initial inspection. Damaged or deteriorated decking is one example.

When those conditions are discovered, the affected areas need to be addressed before the new roofing system is installed. This is one reason we believe a proper roof replacement involves evaluating the roof as a complete system rather than simply installing new shingles.

Our experience has taught us to look beyond the most obvious problem and communicate what we find to the homeowner before moving forward.

Customer Experiences

The trust homeowners place in us is one of the most important parts of our business. We appreciate customers who have taken the time to share their experiences with Square Foot Roofing:

“We had a new roof installed on our home and are extremely happy with the entire experience! Tony is great to work with; he is knowledgeable, quick to respond, and offered great pricing. He made the entire process easy and stress-free!

The new roof looks excellent, they took the extra time to replace any damaged boards and cleaned up afterwards. We appreciated how smoothly the process went and would highly recommend them to anyone needing a roof replacement or repair.” — Mellissa Russell

“We loved our experience with Square Foot Roofing! I trusted them with my roof and I’m sure glad I did as we opened a can of worms and the plywood underneath was in bad shape. This was an unexpected cost but Tony worked with us kindly within my budget. My roof looks great and I feel much better it was fixed right. Thank you Square Foot team! I will refer:)” — Heather Covert

“I had damage from a storm that blew up several spots on my roof. As I went around and inspected it myself I noticed I had at least one leak and rotting wood in one location. Tony came out and inspected and quoted a new roof the same day as I contacted him. They went above and beyond with the install, laying tarps to ensure nails and trash were not left around and cleaned up very well. The entire process was completed in one day. They were professional and any questions I had were answered. I highly recommend him and Square Foot Roofing to anyone I find.” — Jason Koonce

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need a roof repair or complete replacement?

It depends on the age and condition of the roof, the extent of the damage, and the condition of the underlying roofing system. A professional evaluation can help determine whether repair or replacement is appropriate.

What happens if damaged decking is discovered during a roof replacement?

Damaged or deteriorated decking should be addressed before the new roofing system is installed. If compromised material is discovered after the existing roof is removed, the affected areas can be replaced so the new roof is installed over a suitable surface.

Does a 50-year roof actually last 50 years?

Not necessarily. A 50-year designation may refer to a product specification or manufacturer’s warranty rather than a guaranteed service life. Actual performance depends on the roofing system, installation, weather exposure, maintenance, and applicable warranty terms.

Why is wind resistance important in Virginia Beach?

Strong winds can place significant stress on a residential roofing system. Selecting an appropriate system and following the manufacturer’s installation requirements can help address wind-performance considerations in Hampton Roads.

What should I do if my roof is damaged during a storm?

If you notice missing shingles, visible damage, leaks, or other problems following a storm, have the roof professionally evaluated. Temporary measures may also be necessary to limit additional water intrusion while the damage is being assessed.
