Meet Tony Tenorio, Owner

I’m Tony Tenorio, owner of Square Foot Roofing. I’ve worked in the roofing industry for more than 30 years, and that experience has shown me the importance of evaluating every roof based on its individual condition.

A roofing system consists of more than the shingles visible from the ground. Decking, flashing, valleys, ventilation, roof penetrations, underlayment, and other components can all influence how a replacement should be performed.

My goal is to make sure homeowners understand what their roof needs before the project begins. If an issue is uncovered after the existing roofing is removed, I explain what was found and what should be addressed rather than simply installing new materials over an underlying problem.

Square Foot Roofing has been Virginia state licensed since 2019 and primarily serves residential roofing and roof replacement customers throughout Norfolk, Hampton Roads, and northeastern North Carolina.

Residential Roof Replacement

Residential roof replacement is one of our primary services. When a roof has become worn out or suffered significant damage, we evaluate the complete roofing system instead of concentrating only on the visible shingles.

The condition of the underlying decking is an important consideration. If damaged or deteriorated decking is discovered during the replacement, those areas can be addressed before the new roofing system is installed.

We also examine components such as flashing, valleys, ventilation, underlayment, and roof penetrations because each can contribute to the performance of the finished roof.

Our residential roofing services are available throughout Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Poquoson. We also serve homeowners in Moyock, Elizabeth City, Hertford, and Edenton, North Carolina.

Our Roof Replacement Process

We begin each roof replacement by evaluating the existing system and discussing its condition with the homeowner.

If replacement is appropriate, we identify areas that may require additional attention. Some conditions, including compromised decking, may not become visible until the existing roofing materials are removed.

Once the roofing system and project scope have been established, we install the new system according to applicable product specifications and manufacturer requirements.

Cleanup is part of the project as well. Roofing work can produce substantial debris, and we take care to clean the work area rather than leaving the homeowner to deal with the remaining materials.

Our focus throughout the project is clear communication, careful workmanship, and a roofing system that is properly installed for the home.

50-Year Roof Systems

Square Foot Roofing offers roofing systems that can include products marketed with 50-year product or warranty specifications.

A “50-year” designation should not automatically be interpreted as a guarantee that a roof will provide 50 years of service. Depending on the product, it may refer to a manufacturer’s warranty or a specific product specification.

Actual roof performance can vary based on the roofing system, installation, weather exposure, maintenance, ventilation, and applicable warranty requirements.

As an Owens Corning Certified and Preferred Contractor, we can help homeowners understand the roofing products and system options available for their property before making a final decision.

High-Wind Resistant Roofing

Wind performance is an important consideration for homeowners in Norfolk and throughout Hampton Roads, where residential roofs can experience strong winds and severe weather.

Square Foot Roofing offers roofing systems capable of wind resistance ratings of up to 160 mph when the applicable products, installation methods, and manufacturer specifications are followed. The actual rating depends on the specific roofing system selected.

Wind resistance involves more than the shingle itself. Fastening methods, installation procedures, and compliance with manufacturer requirements all contribute to the performance of the complete roofing system.

If you are considering a roof replacement in Norfolk or another Hampton Roads community, we can explain available options for enhanced wind resistance and the requirements associated with the system being considered.

Owens Corning Certified & Preferred Contractor

Square Foot Roofing is proud to be an Owens Corning Certified and Preferred Contractor.

We consider manufacturer certification important because roofing performance depends on both the products selected and how the system is installed. Proper preparation and following applicable manufacturer requirements are important parts of a quality roofing project.

Our experience helps us evaluate the existing roof, recognize conditions that may need attention, and install the selected roofing system with those considerations in mind.

Real Roofing Experience

Some roofing problems are not obvious from the ground.

During residential roof replacements, removing the existing materials can reveal conditions that were not apparent during the initial evaluation. Damaged or deteriorated decking is one example.

When these issues are discovered, the affected areas should be addressed before the new roofing system is installed. That is why we believe a roof replacement should involve evaluating the entire system rather than simply placing new shingles over the existing structure.

Years of hands-on roofing experience have taught us to look beyond the most visible issue and explain our findings to the homeowner before proceeding.

Customer Experiences

The trust homeowners place in Square Foot Roofing is extremely important to us. We are grateful to customers who have shared their experiences:

“We had a new roof installed on our home and are extremely happy with the entire experience! Tony is great to work with; he is knowledgeable, quick to respond, and offered great pricing. He made the entire process easy and stress-free!

The new roof looks excellent, they took the extra time to replace any damaged boards and cleaned up afterwards. We appreciated how smoothly the process went and would highly recommend them to anyone needing a roof replacement or repair.” — Mellissa Russell

“We loved our experience with Square Foot Roofing! I trusted them with my roof and I’m sure glad I did as we opened a can of worms and the plywood underneath was in bad shape. This was an unexpected cost but Tony worked with us kindly within my budget. My roof looks great and I feel much better it was fixed right. Thank you Square Foot team! I will refer:)” — Heather Covert

“I had damage from a storm that blew up several spots on my roof. As I went around and inspected it myself I noticed I had at least one leak and rotting wood in one location. Tony came out and inspected and quoted a new roof the same day as I contacted him. They went above and beyond with the install, laying tarps to ensure nails and trash were not left around and cleaned up very well. The entire process was completed in one day. They were professional and any questions I had were answered. I highly recommend him and Square Foot Roofing to anyone I find.” — Jason Koonce

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need a roof repair or complete replacement?

The answer depends on the roof’s age and condition, the extent of the damage, and the state of the underlying roofing system. A professional evaluation can help determine whether repair or replacement is the better option.

What happens if damaged decking is discovered during a roof replacement?

Deteriorated or damaged decking should be addressed before the new roofing system is installed. If compromised sections are discovered after the existing roof is removed, those areas can be replaced so the new roof has a suitable surface underneath it.

Does a 50-year roof actually last 50 years?

Not necessarily. A 50-year designation can describe a product specification or manufacturer’s warranty rather than a guaranteed service life. Actual longevity depends on the roofing system, installation, weather conditions, maintenance, ventilation, and warranty requirements.

Why is wind resistance important in Norfolk?

Strong winds can put considerable stress on residential roofing systems. Choosing an appropriate roofing system and installing it according to manufacturer requirements can help address wind-performance considerations in Norfolk and throughout Hampton Roads.

What should I do if my roof is damaged during a storm?

If a storm leaves you with missing shingles, visible roof damage, leaks, or other concerns, have the roof professionally evaluated. Temporary protection may also be needed to help prevent additional water intrusion while the damage is being assessed.
